研究内容
 医科大学のなかの歯科という特色を生かし「全身疾患と口腔との関係について」を主な研究テーマに掲げ、歯科のみならず他の教室と共同研究を行っている。
 基礎分野では、「歯内・歯周領域の疾患に対する病態解明」について免疫学、運動器機能再生外科学、感染病態学と、「歯周病と喫煙やメタボリックシンドローム、口腔内細菌と脳内微小出血に関する疫学的検討」について地域保健医療疫学と、「味覚の検討」について細胞生理学と、「歯の形成と体内時計」について統合生理学と共同研究を実施している。
 臨床分野では、「羊膜を用いた口腔外科領域の疾患」に対する再生医療について視覚機能再生外科学と、「歯周病と糖尿病の関係」について内分泌・代謝内科と、「口腔細菌と川崎病の関係」について細胞分子機能制御学と共同研究を実施している。
 再生医療では、本学の高度先進医療助成を受け、羊膜上口腔粘膜培養上皮シートを作成、手術後の上皮欠損症例に対し臨床応用が行われ、良好な成績をおさめている。また歯周病と糖尿病に関しては、糖尿病患者に対し歯周病治療を行うことで、血糖コントロールの改善がみられている。
