研究内容
 医科大学のなかの歯科という特色を生かし「全身疾患と口腔との関係について」を主な研究テーマに掲げ、歯科のみならず他の教室と共同研究を行っている。
 基礎分野では、「歯内・歯周領域の疾患に対する病態解明」について免疫学、感染病態学、運動器機能再生外科学と、「口腔内細菌と脳内微小出血に関する疫学的検討や口腔機能低下症と全身に関する検討」について地域保健医療疫学と、「歯の形成と体内時計」について統合生理学と共同研究を実施している。
 臨床分野では、「羊膜を用いた口腔外科領域の疾患」に対する再生医療について視覚機能再生外科学と、「歯周病と糖尿病の関係」について内分泌・代謝内科と、「口腔細菌と川崎病の関係」について細胞分子機能制御学と共同研究を実施している。
 再生医療では、羊膜上口腔粘膜培養上皮シートを作成、手術後の上皮欠損症例に対し臨床応用が行われ、良好な成績をおさめている。また歯周病と糖尿病に関しては、糖尿病患者に対し歯周病治療を行うことで、血糖コントロールの改善がみられている。
