International Exchange

The School of Medicine has active exchange programs with an increasing number of Universities. Regular exchanges take place with the following institutions: Oklahoma University (USA), Hallym University (Korea), Leeds University (UK), Edinburgh University (UK) and Cardiff University (UK).
For exchange students who follow medical electives there might be language barriers at some moments. Such as during interaction with patients and hospital staff. However we do our best to accommodate for our incoming students. Therefore you do not need any proficiency in Japanese in order to participate. Please do note that at present our focus is on students from partner institutions. To learn more about medical electives or clerkships at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine please see the essay by Bobbi Lakin from Oklahoma who visited our university in 2015, or the essay by Ozlem Boztepe from Leeds University who came to KPUM in 2017.
The Graduate School of Medical Science receives foreign students who conduct part of their research at our facilities. The acceptance of students is decided on by the research departments. Since 2015 there is furthermore a Double Degree Program in Biomedicine and Neuroscience with Maastricht University (the Netherlands).
