Research Contents
In our department, research is conducted by four major subgroups; otology, rhinology, laryngology, and head and neck cancer. The current areas of interest are as follows.

Otology

Mechanisms of the inner ear homeostasis.

Mechanisms of the EP (endocochlear potential) generation.
Ultrastructure and molecular components of the stereocilia.
Physiology of the vestibular and oculomotor systems.

Rhinology
A novel therapeutic approach for allergic rhinitis using cytokines.
Ion transport in the nasal and sinus membrane.
Intercellular signaling in the nasal and sinus membrane via gap junctions.

Laryngology
Protection of the ambiguous nuclei neurons after nerve damage.
Function of clock genes in the larynx.
Function of nociceptors in the larynx.

Head and Neck Cancer
Immunogene therapy for squamous cell carcinoma.
Function of the p53 suppressor genes on tumor cell proliferation.
Clinical and pathological study in molecules related to the cervical lymph node metastasis.
